Pinocchio
Short & sweet
Watch as 9 lively and playful children are transformed by 9 adults into Pinocchio - a puppet that moves only within the patterns dictated by the puppeteer. A breathtaking and beautiful yet truly unsettling performance that evolves from playful chaos to strict order and ultimately into a grotesque and musical dance spectacle.
Alice Laloy has won numerous awards and is undoubtedly one of the biggest names in within the field. Therefore, it is particularly special that we have the opportunity to present PINOCCHIO (live) in Denmark during the ILT Festival 2025.
Still curious?
In 2014, Alice Laloy was invited to design the first cover of a magazine dedicated to puppetry. Fascinated by the transformation from puppet to child, she revisited the myth of Pinocchio - a puppet that, with no knowledge of the world it comes to life in, must learn to act, socialize, and distinguish between right and wrong. In other words, it must be formed. In 2014, Alice Laloy reversed the story, transforming her own child into a marionette.
Now, the project has become a performance where Alice Laloy portrays children in transformation, presented in a sequence of three movements: Alive, Inanimate-Inert, Animated.
The first part of the performance, from living to lifeless, shows the transformation of children into puppets through a ritualized process. Inanimate is the second part, where the lifeless puppets are stored on automated chairs, questioning the very nature of movement. The third part, from lifeless to living, is depicted through a trance-dance.
