ILT Festival

ILT Festival is held every other year in Aarhus with a vision to present some of the world's most acclaimed international artists. The festival is organized by Theatre Svalegangen, Theater Group 38 and Aarhus Theatre in a close collaboration with the rest of the city's theaters 


The programme consists of carefully selected performances in a wide range of genres, spanning everything from classical drama to dance, physical theatre, installations, puppetry and animation theatre, music and theatre concerts. The festival also features workshops, artist-talks and other exciting events for both the industry and the people of Aarhus.

ILT Festival 2023 was the 8th edition of the festival.

Teatret Gruppe 38 is one of the three theatres who arrange the festival. Artistic director Bodil Alling is one third of the curator group in charge of selecting the performances for the ILT Festival.

Background for the festival

The idea of creating an international performing arts biennale in the city of Aarhus originally came to be out of pure passion in the theatre environment in Aarhus. Today the festival is written into the municipal cultural plan.

The main purpose of the Festival is to present the audience to some of the most intriguing international theatre, dance and performance art. Furthermore, the festival strives to build bridges to new groups of audiences and to strengthen the audience's interest in the performing arts.
