Concept Touring
caravan (Farnham, England) and ILT Festival are thrilled to announce a new Collaborative Learning Initiative on the topic of Concept Touring. We’re looking to bring together 10 performing artists and companies from England and Denmark to explore innovative, environmentally responsible ways to share their work internationally – without the need for excessive travel.
As the climate crisis reshapes the way we live, work and create, this initiative, supported by the International Touring Environmental Responsibility Fund, offers an opportunity to challenge conventional touring models and experiment with bold alternatives. Participants will embark on an exploratory journey guided by leading thinkers from various industries. Together, we will generate fresh ideas and conversations for creating meaningful international connections while reducing our carbon footprint.
Over four months, the selected artists will engage in online workshops and seminars, and reflect on and evolve their practice in a supportive, collaborative space. The funding of £650 GBP per participant offers financial support to ensure artists can afford the time to focus on exploring new concepts that align with and develop their artistic practice.
Participants will also have the chance to attend a culminating seminar at ILT Festival in Aarhus, Denmark (virtually or in person), to share their insights, discoveries and potential new frameworks for the future of international touring with the wider sector.
It’s a unique opportunity for artists to reimagine how they engage with international audiences and help shape a more sustainable, forward-thinking future for the performing arts. We are seeking individuals, groups or companies with a passion for pushing boundaries and a willingness to explore new ideas. Perhaps you are already engaged in environmentally conscious practices or are looking for ways to integrate conceptual touring ideas into your work.
The initiative is supported by Arts Council England, Arts Council Norway, Julie’s Bicycle & The Danish Arts Foundation.
